  • What is a FOID card?

    FOID stands for Firearms Owner Identification card. It is required by the

    state of Illinois to exercise your second amendment right to own or possess

    a firearm in your home, and allows you to purchase firearms and

    ammunition. It does not allow you to carry a firearm on your person for self-

    defense. The state of Illinois requires you possess a concealed carry

    license in order to exercise your second amendment right to carry a firearm

    for self-defense.

  • Do I need to have a FOID card to take any of the classes?

    You do not need a FOID card to take any of our classes.

  • Do I need to own or bring a firearm to class?

    We will provide you with a firearm to use at no extra cost. Outside firearms

    and ammunition are not allowed in the classroom.

  • Is there an age requirement to take security training?

    You must be 18 years of age to take unarmed security training class and

    21 years of age to take armed security training class.

  • Is there parking available?

    Free parking is available on the street in front and on the side of our school.

  • What if I have to miss a class?

    You must attend all hours of all days to earn your certificate. If you start in a

    class, but can’t finish any of the days, you will need to reschedule. You

    cannot finish just the rest of the days at a later date, you must start the

    course from the beginning. A $55 rescheduling fee applies.

  • Where is the class located?

    Classes are generally located at 4425 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL

    60641. Four blocks west of I90/I94/ Kennedy Expressway.

  • Do I get my certificate the last day of class?

    It depends. Students who complete a concealed carry class with be issued

    their training certificate at the end of the class. Students who complete a

    security class will receive their certificate in the mail approximately 2 weeks

    after class completion.

  • Is there homework?

    Depending on the class and the instructor, homework may be assigned.

  • Will there be any physical contact during classes?

    At times, an instructor may need touch you in order to guide, direct, redirect

    or demonstrate a procedure.

  • How do I get a replacement and or duplicate certificates?

    Please save your training certificate in a safe place. In the event you need a duplicate training certificate, there is a cost of $95 and can take up to 30 days.  

  • Are the class dates the same as on your website?

    Class schedules are subject to change. Please call us at 773-355-1691 for an up-to-date class schedule. 

  • Can I bring a tape recorder to class?

    Video or audio recordings are not allowed. If discovered, you will be asked to leave the class and no certificate or refund will be issued. 

  • If I have to go to work can my friend set in class and take notes for me?

    No, you must attend all training hours yourself to be issued a certificate. 

  • Do we offer job placement?

    We do not offer job placement. However, while in class you will receive tips on how to write your resume and suggestions on where to apply for jobs. 

  • Can I work security if I'm not a citizen but have a green card or resident visa?

    As long as you have be issued a PERC Card, you can work security. If you need assistance getting a PERC card with a green card or resident visa, call us at 773-355-1691. We can help you.

  • Do I need to bring a photo ID with me proving my age?

    All classes require you to bring a state ID or driver’s license to verify your identity.

  • Do I need a high school diploma?

    A high school diploma is not necessary to get a PERC card. However, employers have the right to require a high school diploma.

  • Do I need to register for class?

    All class registrations and payment for the class must be made in advance. You can pre-register online or complete the application process with us by calling 773-355-1691. We cannot accommodate walk-in students.  

  • How do I contact you?

Payment and Registration Questions
  • When do I need to pay for the class?

    Class registration and payment is due in advance. Call us at 773-355-1691 to register and make payment. This will secure your seat in class. We accept all major credit cards, debit cards and Zelle payments. 

  • How do I register for class?

    Register and pay online or call 773-355-1691. By calling, we can answer any questions you may have and immediately reserve your seat in class. Walk-ins on the day of class are not accepted. 

  • What does the class fee include?

    Class fee payments are for the class only. Range fees, supplies, state licensing fees and optional services are not included.  

  • My place of employment wants to pay for my training, will you accept a payment from them?

    Please have your employer contact us at 773-355-1691 and we will make take care of securing payment from your employer. 

  • Can I get a refund?

    We do not issue refunds, however, we will issue you credit for a future class. Please keep in mind that regardless of the reason, a $55 rescheduling fee will apply when rescheduling. 

  • I overslept, forgot or otherwise missed my class, now what?

    Things happen, we understand. Should you miss your entire class, you can reschedule, subject to a $55 rescheduling fee. If you miss a class for a 2nd time, you forfeit your payment and no refund will be issued. You will need to re-register and make the full payment again to get back into class.

    If you start in a class, but can’t finish any of the days, you cannot finish a portion at a later day. You will need to reschedule and start the whole class again. A $55 rescheduling fee applies.  

Unarmed Security Questions
  • What is a PERC card?

    PERC stands for “Permanent Employee Registration Card”. A PERC card is required to work as unarmed or armed security in the state of Illinois.

  • I have received a PERC renewal notification in the mail, what do I need to do?

    If you would like assistance in renewing your PERC card, please call us at773-355-1691. 

  • Do I have to be fingerprinted?

    It depends. Students who are applying for a PERC card must submit fingerprints. This is an Illinois State mandate for all PERC applications. 


    If you are applying for your Illinois CCL, Fingerprints are optional. If you choose to submit fingerprints for your Illinois CCL, the State will process your application within 90 days (3months). If you choose NOT to submit fingerprints for your Illinois CCL, the State will process your application within 180 Days (6 months). 


    We offer on-site Livescan Fingerprinting for PERC Cards, Illinois CCL, Utah CCL and Florida CCL. 


  • Do I have to pay for the PERC card or do we get it in class?

    We provide the training certification needed to apply for your PERC Card. We do not issue PERC Cards. Once you complete the initial training, you can apply for your PERC card directly with the State. If you don’t want the hassle of dealing with the state bureaucracy, take advantage of our application assistance and monitoring program, and we will take care of everything for you!

  • I've lost my PERC card but have the 20-Hour Certificate from another school. Will you replace my PERC card?

    We do not replace PERC cards, but call us at 773-355-1691 and we can assist you in getting your PERC card replaced.

  • What do I need to bring to class?

    For all classes, you must bring your ID, paper, a black ink pen. 

  • Are there any additional fees?

    The fee you pay for your class, is for the class only. It does not include costs for state required fingerprinting, State license fee or optional application assistance and monitoring. 

  • Can I work unarmed security if I have a felony or misdemeanor?

    In order to work unarmed security, you must have a PERC Card. Having a prior record does not automatically preclude you from obtaining a PERC Card.  


    Once you complete the unarmed security class, we suggest you use our application assistance and monitoring service, as the process to get a PERC card is more complex if you have a background. While we cannot guarantee that with our service you will be approved for a PERC card, using our service will give you a better chance as we can help you navigate the additional steps necessary to submit your application with your background. 


    In the event the State does not approve your PERC application based on your background, we can refer you to an attorney who specializes in assisting clients with less than perfect backgrounds in obtaining a PERC Card.


Armed Security Questions
  • Do I have to get a PERC card and a FOID card for armed security?

    A PERC card is required for any security position within the State of Illinois. If you wish to ungraded to work armed security, you will need a FOID card as well. If you need assistance in obtaining a FOID card, call us at 773-355-1691 for assistance. 

  • Do I get the PERC card by taking the armed security course?

    You must first complete the 20-hour unarmed security class in order to obtain a PERC Card. Once you have that in place, you can register for our armed security training certification. 

  • Are there additional fees?

    The fee you pay for your class, is for the class only. It does not include range fees and supplies.  

  • Can I be in armed security if I have a felony or misdemeanor?

    In order to work security in the State of Illinois, you must have a PERC Card. In order to work armed security, you must have a PERC card and hold a valid FOID card. Please call us if you need assistance in obtaining a FOID card. 

    In the event the State does not approve your FOID application based on your background, we can refer you to an attorney who specializes in assisting clients with less than perfect backgrounds in obtaining a FOID Card.

  • I don't have a firearm. Can I still take the armed training?

    We provide our concealed carry students and armed security students with the use of a firearm at no additional cost.  

  • What type of weapon will I qualify with?

    When qualifying for armed security, you can qualify on a semi-automatic pistol, revolver, shotgun and/or rifle. Our armed security training class will qualify you on a semi-automatic pistol. That is what many armed security companies require their security guards to carry.


    However, there are some employers who require their armed security guards to carry (and qualify on) a revolver. It is for this reason we highly suggest you qualify on the pistol and revolver. 


    If you choose to add on an additional platform to qualify on (revolver, shotgun, or rifle, we can easily do it all at the same time.


    Note that if you choose to only qualify only on the semi-automatic pistol, and later want to add revolver, shotgun or rifle onto your qualification, you must take the whole 3-day course again. We highly suggest you add on whatever additional platforms you want during your initial training. This will save you time and money. 


  • Is there an additional fee for qualifying on a revolver, shotgun or rifle?

    There is a $65 fee for each additional platform you wish to qualify on as long as you add this on before or during your scheduled armed security class. This fee does not include your ammunition cost.  


    If you want to add an additional platform on AFTER you complete your armed security training, you must take the whole 3-day course again. This is why we highly suggest you add on whatever additional platforms you want during your initial training. This will save you time and money. 

  • Do I have to be fingerprinted?

    While you must be fingerprinted to get your basic security license (PERC Card), you do not need to get fingerprinted again for armed security. 

  • What do I need to bring to the range?

    You will need proper clothing such as long sleeve shirt, pants (no shorts), closed toe shoes, and eye and ear protection. While not required, a billed hat is encouraged to deflect hot ejected shell casings. 

  • What is an FCC Card (formerly TAN card) card?

    FCC stands for Firearm Control Card. After completing our armed security training, your employer, if they want you to work armed security, will apply for and issue you an FCC card showing what firearms you are qualified to carry while on duty.

  • I already have a concealed carry license. Can I just use my CCL to work armed security.

    Absolutely not. An FCC card is required to work armed security, and is only valid while you are on duty. An FCC card does not allow you to carry a firearm when off duty.


    An Illinois CCL only allows you to carry a firearm for self-defense while you are not working. Your CCL does not allow you to carry a firearm while on duty.
